Goodbye 2015. Hello 2016.

I haven’t done a “Year in Review” before because, well, I never really thought much about it and quite frankly I wasn’t quite sure that it was warranted.

2015 was different.

At first glance, maybe not the best.

I busted myself up pretty well. Again. In fact less than 1 year after busting myself up in Spain, I found myself on the pavement again. This time with 4 broken ribs and a busted pelvis.

My pelvis. With a lot of hardware in it.

As I thought back on 2015 though I realized that it was overall a pretty damn good year.

Tom Peterson prepares for the clinic…and riding his bike again after retiring from the World Tour

Tête de la Course Cycling brought newly retired World Tour Professional Tom Peterson on board. Early in 2015 we conducted 2 race clinics for some Seattle based club teams. Tom has also started to coach a developing junior racer with the goal of some day turning professional.

Tour of California. You know that the live television coverage is about to begin when the helicopters appear in the sky.

I worked for 4 different men’s professional teams this year and even got a stage win at the Sea Otter Classic. The highlight had to be though working as the Second Director for the Optum Professional Cycling Team at the Tour of California. I learned a lot and it was a great experience.

I also had a number of athletes who had break through performances in 2015.

Ansel Dickey reaps the rewards of a tough day out at Tour of the Gila.

Although not the step he wanted, Ansel should still be proud of his 2nd place at U23 Crit Nationals in Tahoe. Well done dude.

Jeremiah Jensen went from a Cat 5 to a Cat 2 in one season and will be flying the Tête de la Course colors in 2016. Congrats dude!

I have been coaching Logan since he was 13 years old. Together we have won 10 National CX titles, 2 Junior Road National Titles and two 4 place finishes at the Junior World Championships. Nothing was bigger and nothing validated our coach-athlete relationship more (to date) then when he pulled off the win in Stage 3 of The Tour of Utah.

A proud moment. Coach and athlete. And two World Championship Medals.

Arguably though the best of 2015 was when Chloe Dygert won not one, but two World Championship medals on home soil in Richmond, VA. Because of my injuries it was questionable (and not advised) that I was going to be able to make it. But, I was hell bent to make the cross-country journey to support both Chloe and Logan. I am grateful that I did.

It is blurry but that is because there are tow World Champions riding behind a motor bike.

After Worlds the USA Cycling Track Program wanted to see if Chloe could contribute to their goal of winning gold in Rio in 2016. That is one of the new goals of 2016 – Olympic Gold!

So – Goodbye 2015. I am not sure that I can top you in 2016. But I am hell bent on trying.
