Periodically I will be posting brief profiles of Tête de la Course athletes. They will either be athletes being coached by Tête de la Course Cycling or athletes flying the Tête de la Course colors in various parts of the country.
Today’s profile is on Ansel Dickey from Woodstock, Vermont.
Ansel is one of the athletes being coached by Tête de la Course Cycling. He is 19 and grew up on Cape Cod, Maryland playing soccer and skiing with his father. He attended Killington Mountain School in Vermont as a ski racer before an injury prompted him to switch to cycling. A 3rd place at the 2012 US Junior National Road Race for 17-18 year olds showed that the switch was a good idea. In 2013 Ansel was chosen to ride for the US Junior National Team abroad at events in Switzerland, Germany and Belgium.
2014 is Ansel’s first in the U23 ranks and will see him racing the US National Racing Calendar for the California Giant Berry Farms/ Specialized Cycling Team. Cal-Giant/ Specialized has been instrumental in fostering the development of a number of riders throughout its 12 year history. Cal-Giant’s Owner-General Manager, Anthony Gallino sees a bright future for Ansel whose long term goals are to eventually sign with a World Tour Team and hopefully make a living traveling the world racing his bike.
Not a bad goal at all.
Keep an eye out for a report from Ansel about his first NRC Stage Race experience at the 2014 Redlands Cycling Classic and be sure to follow Ansel on Twitter at @anseldickey1 .
