Logan Owen is currently in Europe with USA Cycling participating in 2 World Cup events. Tomorrow he will compete in the second World Cup race in Plzen. The aim of the trip is to gain experience and World Cup points with the final goal being the World Championships next February in Louisville.
This is his fourth installment about his trip.
Today was the day we were going to check out the course for the 2nd World Cup in Plzen. As we were getting ready to go it began to snow quite heavily. By the time we got to the course it was super muddy. I immediately knew to try out my Challenge Limus first. So I started with 20psi in the front and 21 in the rear. That actually ended up being the perfect pressure for those conditions. After a few runs we headed back, got cleaned up, ate and then got our numbers. Gully gave us the info we needed to know from the managers meeting and after that we just started focusing on our gameplan for the race the next day.
Fast forward 9 hours and I just got off of Skype with Logan after he woke up in the morning. This is what he had to report:
I just woke up after getting a great 9 hours of sleep. We have just over 3 hours to go for the race. I am getting ready to head down for breakfast.
There is about a half inch of snow on the ground but it is not snowing anymore. The course should be frozen ruts with a muddy layer on top.
My tentative plan today is to primarily mark van der Poel as well as Hermans and go really f’ng hard.
Time to head to breakfast and get ready. I will let you know how it goes.
