Here is the the second installment from Logan Owen as he races The Tour of l’Abitibi as a member of the US Junior National Team.
7/17 Stage 1:
So the flagged dropped and we started today’s 118 km stage in a crosswind. Our team assembled at the front and guttered the race and eventually we were able to get Greg, TJ, and Geoffrey off the front on their own. They stayed off the front and took the first sprints and kom’s.
The Canadians banded together and brought them back 80km into the race. So we just followed the ensuing attacks. It wasn’t long after that when I flatted. I waited at the back of the pack until the team car got up there and I got the fastest wheel change ever from our mechanic Ralf. I was back in the pack within 2 minutes.
We hit the finishing circuits and we all took control at the front. We we were able to control the last 2 of 3 finishing circuits in town. For the final I was the 1st guy into the corner on the last lap (leading out Darville) hitting it from 400m out and he went with 200m to go and ended up 2nd and I held on for 4th. So all in all we had a pretty good stage.
Going for the win again tomorrow!
Thanks for reading.
